FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Chambersburg (August 25) - The South-Central Farmers' Market Association announced today that breakfast would be offered to patrons of the Southgate Farmers' Market, as well as spicy, grill cooked chicken for lunchtime patrons. Breakfast offerings will include freshly baked doughnuts, fruit cups, coffee, and lemonade.

Last weekend, the Chambersburg Southgate Farmers' Market experienced one of its busiest days ever - with an estimated four hundred patrons visiting the Market to buy locally produced and organic produce. Organic beef, goat's cheese, and a wide variety of other products are now available at the Farmers' Market.

Tom Linzey, coordinator of the Franklin County Coalition - one of the supporters of the Farmers' Market - explained that "the wide variety of fresh and organic produce is a large draw for residents of the Chambersburg area. In addition, the Market is becoming a 'happening' - with folks coming together to visit with friends and family also buying produce at the Market." Linzey predicted that the crowds would grow, as word of the Market spreads to other communities and neighborhoods. He stated "this Market is truly an example of what can happen when concerned citizens join together to build sustainable communities."

The Market, which is approaching its twelfth operating weekend, has added a vendor a week, and currently boasts over a dozen vendors of produce and goods. On weekends past, the Market has hosted live music, a cooking demonstration by a noted local food columnist, and food giveaways.

The Market is held each Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12 Noon. For more information about the Market, contact Jim Smith, coordinator, at 352-0154 or Tom Linzey at 709-0457.
