FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Southampton Township (October 18) - Results of the Franklin County Coalition's Voter Guide reveal unanimous support among candidates for local government office in Franklin County for the preservation of historic structures and places.

According to the results of the Voter Guide, all twenty-six local candidate respondents agreed with the statement that "historic structures and places within Franklin County should be preserved." Ten of the respondents stated that preservation priorities depended upon cost, while the rest of the respondents simply agreed with the statement.

Tom Linzey, coordinator of the Coalition, stated that "the results of the Voter Guide shouldn't be surprising to most of the public. Historic sites and places maintain the integrity of Franklin County as reminders of the County's rich and vibrant historical legacy. They truly belong to all Franklin Countians as part of our inheritance of the public trust."

Preservation of historic sites is a priority of the Franklin County Coalition. The Coalition's Declaration of Principles includes this statement: "The Coalition urges all local governments to adopt policies which provide for the preservation of all buildings, structures, and lands that have historic or potentially historic value."

The Voter Guide, produced in September by the Franklin County Coalition, is the first ever Countywide Voter Guide which focuses on candidates running for local office. The Guide consists of the answers to seven questions submitted by candidates running for County, Borough, and Township Offices. The questions ranged from farmland preservation to supporting downtowns and locally owned businesses, to opposing factory farm operations.

The Coalition has produced 5,000 Voter Guides, which are being distributed through the County's locally owned businesses who are members of the Coalition; and through the nonprofit organizations which are members of the Coalition.

Free copies of the Voter Guide are available to Franklin County citizens and locally owned businesses by contacting the Coalition at 530-0764. Packets of 25 Guides are also available for distribution by groups and individuals.
