FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Shippensburg (September 20) - The Franklin County Coalition - a
coalition composed of Franklin County nonprofit organizations and
locally owned businesses - announced today the offering of three
scholarships to enable Franklin County residents to attend the upcoming
Pennsylvania Environmental Congress. The Congress will be held on
the campus of Shippensburg University from October 23-24. The scholarships
were made possible by an anonymous donation from a Franklin County
couple.
Each year, state environmental organizations sponsor the Pennsylvania
Environmental Congress, which is educates and informs the public
about state and national environmental issues. This year, the Congress
is offering seminars on the restructuring of the nuclear power industry,
reforming the land use planning code in Pennsylvania, curbing urban
sprawl with local tax reform, air pollution and power plants, and
litigating in Pennsylvania courts without an attorney. The keynote
speaker for the Congress this year is Brian Tokar - a nationally
acclaimed speaker on genetic engineering and agricultural issues.
Local speakers from Franklin County appearing as presenters at the
Congress include Alanna Hartzok of Greene Township and Thomas Linzey,
Esq. of Southampton Township. Hartzok is hosting a panel on tax
reform and Linzey will be presenting a seminar on litigating in
federal and state courts without an attorney.
Bill Payne of the Franklin County Coalition explained that "these
three scholarships are being offered by the Coalition to enable
area residents to participate in this important event. Along with
its other projects, the Coalition is dedicated to ensuring that
citizens have access to this important information concerning their
natural environment."
