Native Harvest - White Earth Land Recovery Project
(WELRP) is an independent non-profit organization concerned with land, culture, and environmental issues on the White Earth Reservation. After many years of seeking justice, we decided to work on determing our destiny by actively recovering our land and strengthening our culture and economy. We have purchased over 1,200 acres of land, and seek return of public land holdings to the White Earth Band. We conduct language and cultural programming in the Pine Point School (Wadiswaan Project), and actively work on environmental issues to keep our trees standing, our lakes free of poisons and our ceremonies alive. We would like to see alternative energy used, and have erected two wind monitors in the White Earth area. We hope to make wind energy a viable, ecologically sound energy source for our people. And, through our work, we have created Native Harvest, which markets maple syrup, hominy corn, wild rice, and raspberry preserves (as well as other items), as we seek to strengthen our traditional economy and way of life.
