FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Southampton Township (October 14) - The results of the recently
released Franklin County Voter Guide by the Franklin County Coalition
reveal unanimous support among candidates for local office across
the County for the purchasing of recycled paper for local government
offices.
According to the results of the Voter Guide, all twenty-six local
candidate respondents agreed to support the purchasing of recycled
paper supplies for County, Borough, and Township offices.
Several local government offices have already shown their support
for purchasing recycled office supplies by publicly switching
to the purchasing of high-content, chlorine free-processed, recycled
office paper. Franklin County offices and Southampton Township
Supervisors made the switch earlier this year, with several other
local governments, including Lurgan Township and Greene Township,
currently considering the purchasing change.
"The results of the Franklin County Voter Guide show incredible
broad-based support for responsible paper purchasing practices",
explained Tom Linzey of the Franklin County Coalition. "The
work of the Franklin County Coalition and the views of these local
candidates show that a large portion of the public cares about
these issues."
The Voter Guide, produced in September by the Franklin County
Coalition, is the first ever Countywide Voter Guide which focuses
on candidates running for local office. The Guide consists of
the answers to seven questions submitted by candidates running
for County, Borough, and Township Offices. The questions ranged
from farmland preservation to supporting downtowns and locally
owned businesses, to opposing factory farm operations.
The Coalition has produced 5,000 Voter Guides, which are being
distributed through the County's locally owned businesses who
are members of the Coalition; and through the nonprofit organizations
which are members of the Coalition.
Free copies of the Voter Guide are available to Franklin County
citizens and locally owned businesses by contacting the Coalition
at 530-0764. Packets of 25 Guides are also available for distribution
by groups and individuals.
