FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Shippensburg (5/18) - The Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund (CELDF) and the Franklin County Coalition (FCC) announced today that the Greene Township Supervisors have made their first purchase of high content, chlorine free processed, recycled office paper. The decision by the Greene Township Supervisors follows purchasing decisions made by the Southampton Township Supervisors and the Voter Registration Bureau of Franklin County, to switch over to the use of high-content recycled
paper.

The office paper, delivered on May 16th, was ordered from GreenLine Paper of York County, which is the only wholesaler in South-Central Pennsylvania which sells the New Life! brand office paper, which contains 100% recycled content and is manufactured using a chlorine-free process. The decision to switch to high-content recycled paper was made by the Supervisors after they received a request from Jim Smith of the Franklin County Coalition, a Greene Township resident.

Tom Linzey, legal advisor for the Franklin County Coalition, stated that "the Coalition believes that the adoption of responsible paper
purchasing policies at the Township level is essential for building a market for paper which is manufactured in a responsible, environmentally friendly manner. A byproduct of chlorine paper production is dioxin, which the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) now reports to be a high level carcinogen. We applaud the Greene Township Supervisors for making the switch away from paper produced with those byproducts, and we look forward to working with other municipalities to convert their paper purchasing policy."

The Franklin County Coalition is composed of fourteen (14) nonprofit community based organizations across the County, along with over thirty (30) locally owned businesses. Recently, the Coalition also launched a tree planting program, whereby the Plantation Nursery in Quincy Township will donate tree saplings for area residents.
