FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Chambersburg (October 6) - Three area residents received scholarships
today from the Franklin County Coalition to enable those individuals
to attend the upcoming Pennsylvania Environmental Congress to be
held at Shippensburg University from October 23-24.
The three individuals selected include two students from Wilson
College in Chambersburg, and a resident of Waynesboro who is currently
attending Dickinson Law School in Carlisle. The two students attending
Wilson College - Sara Martin and Cheryl Hough - are part of Wilson
College's Environmental Studies Department.
Bill Payne, Coordinator of the Franklin County Coalition, expressed
appreciation for the anonymous donation to the Coalition which
made the scholarships possible, declaring that "I hope that
this is just the beginning of Franklin County residents giving
hard-earned money to enable Franklin County residents to attend
these important events. The Environmental Congress - offering
seminars on issues ranging from clean electricity to urban sprawl
- is extremely important to the citizens of the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania. I'm glad that the Coalition could play a part in
opening those doors to Franklin County residents."
The Environmental Congress will be held at Shippensburg University
from October 23-24. Local presenters at the Congress include Alanna
Hartzok and Tom Linzey. Hartzok will be offering a seminar on
local government tax reform and Linzey will be offering a seminar
on litigating in federal and state courts without an attorney.
Both Linzey and Hartzok are members of the Franklin County Coalition.
The Franklin County Coalition was formed in 1998 to promote a
Sustainable Franklin County. Currently, eleven nonprofit citizen
and environmental organizations belong to the Coalition and over
thirty locally owned businesses have endorsed the Coalition.
