FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Shippensburg (October 5) - The Franklin County Coalition announced
the availability of the first-ever Countywide Voter Guide on candidates
for local office today to Franklin County businesses and individuals.
Single copies of the Guide or packs of 20 Guides are available free
of charge by calling 530-0764.
The Voter Guides are the culmination of the efforts by the Franklin
County Coalition to poll all candidates for Franklin County Commissioner,
Borough Council, and Township Supervisor within the County on
seven key issues promoted by the Coalition. The Guides list the
forty-five (45) candidates and incumbents running for each office,
their answers to the questions, and a letter grade, which compares
their responses to the stance of the Franklin County Coalition.
5,000 copies of the Voter Guides have been printed and distributed
to member businesses and member nonprofit organizations of the
Franklin County Coalition. Distribution of the Voter Guide will
also occur throughout the County's polling places on election
day.
Bill Payne, Coordinator of the Franklin County Coalition, was
pleased with the outcome of the Voter Guide project, stating that
"the issues raised by the Coalition - farmland and forestland
preservation, recycling, renewable energy, supporting locally
owned businesses - represent the concerns of a large section of
the population in Franklin County. The response rate - over 60%
- clearly shows that candidates and incumbents for local office
also realize that these issues have broad appeal to the electorate."
The Franklin County Coalition was formed in 1998 to promote a
Sustainable Franklin County. Currently, eleven nonprofit citizen
and environmental organizations belong to the Coalition and over
thirty locally owned businesses have endorsed the work of the
Coalition.
