FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Chambersburg (Sept. 29) - The Franklin County Coalition released
its 2000 Voters' Guide today. The Guide, a result of Candidate
Questionnaires mailed to candidates in August, is a compilation
of responses to seven questions posed by the Coalition. The responses
were then tabulated and compared to the position of the Franklin
County Coalition, and a resulting consistency grade was assigned
to the responding candidates.
This year's Voters' Guide features responses from
candidates and incumbents seeking the offices of President, Attorney
General, Auditor General, State Treasurer, State House, State
Senate, and U.S. Congress. Overall, the Coalition received a 60%
response rate to its Questionnaire.
This year's Questionnaire included questions dealing
with historic preservation, support for locally owned businesses,
protection for farmland and forestland, and positions on corporate
factory farming and purchasing of high content recycled paper.
The Questionnaire also included questions dealing with support
of hate-free communities and support for renewable energy supplies.
The Franklin County Coalition has printed over 10,000
copies of the Guide, which will be distributed to the Coalition's
organizational members and locally owned businesses beginning
on October 6th. The Guides will also be mailed to the Coalition's
individual members on October 2nd.
The Coalition will also be distributing the Guide
at polling places across Franklin County. Last year, the Coalition
successfully staffed over sixty polling places across the County.
This year, the Coalition is hoping to staff all of the polling
places in the County. The Franklin County Coalition was founded
in 1998 as a unique partnership between the County's nonprofit
community organizations and the County's locally owned business
community. Those groups joined to support the Coalition's Declaration
of Principles, which establishes a sustainable vision for Franklin
County which protects the area's rural quality of life while sustainably
developing its' Boroughs and Villages
