This Week on Democracy Matters: Phil Mattera of Good Jobs First on the Battle in Wisconsin. And the megaloads - as those massive shipments wind their way through scenic Idaho to serve the Tar Sands - why communities are fighting back.
Posted by Mari Margil on March 7th, 2011On this week's program, we talk with Phil Mattera of Good Jobs First, on the going Battle in Wisconsin as Republican Governor Scott Walker seeks to remove collective bargaining protections from workers. Phil talks with us about what this means for the labor movement and why corporations are working with legislatures to undermine labor unions. We also have our roundtable discussion in which we focus on the megaloads issue - those giant 200 foot long truckloads that are being driven across Idaho and Montana, to service the Canadian Tar Sands. Why communities can't say "no" to them. Check out the podcast.
Each week on Democracy Matters we bring you stories from the frontlines as communities bring rights-based organizing to their communities - asserting their local self-governing authority to make the critical decisions that affect their lives and their community.
