This Week on Democracy Matters: The Smogging of America, the Keystone Pipeline from the Alberta Tar Sands, and Queer Rising in NYC as activists take to the streets

Posted by Mari Margil on September 12th, 2011

This week on Democracy Matters - the Obama Adminstration's decisions to nix new smog-reduction rules - a gift to polluters? - and the proposed Keystone Pipeline moving tar sands oil from Alberta to Texas.  What does the environmental community need to be doing differently if it is to achieve sustainability?  And Natasha Dillon, a co-founder of Queer Rising in New York City - an organization formed to organize through direct action in support of gay and transgender rights.

Each week on Democracy Matters we bring you stories from the frontlines as communities bring rights-based organizing to their communities - asserting their local self-governing authority to make the critical decisions that affect their lives and their community.
